Esko’s Severson skis to personal best at State
Sarah Severson has skied in many high school events over her six-year Cloquet-Esko-Carlton alpine ski team career, but the Esko senior saved her best run for last.
Severson skied her way to one of the Northland’s top times last Wednesday. More importantly, she set a personal-best in her final high school race by placing 20th at the Minnesota State Alpine Meet on a sunny Wednesday afternoon at Giants Ridge in Biwabik.
Soaring down the hill in a combined time of 1 minute, 20.01 seconds, Severson didn’t clock her fastest time, but did up her prior best finish of 39th in her third and final state trip.
“I kind of had trouble with my first run, but the second one was good,” Severson said. “The day was super fun.”
Severson, who will ski at the club level for Northern Michigan next winter, will be sorely missed by the Lumberjacks, but will not soon forget her years in purple.
“No, never,” Severson said of her career that lasted over a half of a decade. “I made a lot of friends, have many memories and had a lot of fun. I have been very fortunate.”
“She had a nice race,” CEC Coach Ryan Zimny added. “It’s always nice to see a racer finish on a high note.”
