Wilmer "Willy" Irving G. Krohn

Wilmer "Willy" Irving G. Krohn

Wilmer "Willy" Irving G. Krohn, 92, of Cloquet, died Friday, July 6, 2018 in Barnes Care Assisted Living in Esko. Born on December 25, 1925 in Duluth, Willy was one of seven children of Emil and Ida Krohn. Willy served in the US Navy from November 17, 1943 until his discharge on December 9, 1946. He married Verona Cook on July 26, 1952 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Cloquet.

Willy had been employed as a paint maker at Conwed. He also was the "self-appointed cook" for his Conwed co-workers and cooked them a hot lunch every day. He was a long-time member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cloquet.

Willy loved to bowl and he and his wife, Verona, traveled all over the US to attending bowling events. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Willy was a wonderful gardener and his lawn and gardens were always immaculate.

A bit of a prankster and jokester, Willy had fun where ever he went. He loved to have fun with his family, friends, co-workers and the staff of Evergreen Knoll and Barnes Care. He was always concerned about others before himself and his generosity and caring will be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings.

Willy is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 66 years, Verona; sister, Vivian Simmons of Duluth; several nieces and nephews; and his very special friends, Dave and Shelly Anderson and their families who unselfishly gave of their love, friendship and assistance to Willy and Verona.

Visitation will be from 9:00 until the 10:00 a.m. Funeral Service, Thursday, July 12, 2018 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Cloquet. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Carlton. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Arrangements by Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. To leave an online tribute, see www.atkinsnorthlandfuneralhome.com.
