Ketola unseats Pertler in county attorney race
Lauri Ketola unseated Thom Pertler in the Carlton County attorney race by 77 percent, according to unofficial election results Tuesday night.
Pertler served as Carlton County attorney for about 12 years.
Ketola, a one-time assistant county attorney, told the Pine Journal she decided she wanted to see changes in the Carlton County Attorney's Office, so she campaigned for the position. She has 25 years of criminal and civil legal experience.
This was Ketola's first time running for an office.
"I filed and this is what I'm doing," she said. "I'm excited."
She said she did a lot of campaigning with the help of her husband, Marty, to bring her goal to fruition.
"I was incredibly lucky," Ketola said of her husband's role as campaign manager. "The experience has been enjoyable because I worked with my husband toward a common goal for the community."
Ketola said she is looking forward to working with the employees in the County Attorney's Office as well as to work on some projects.
"I am grateful for all of the support," Ketola said. "I am looking forward to working with some great people in the system and work toward some great changes in the community."
