Burkholder 5K benefits Esko grads

The 23rd Annual Kristin Burkholder 5K Walk/Run kicks off Esko Fun Day on Saturday, Aug. 11.

Race packet pickup begins at the Esko High School Football Field on Canosia Road at 7:45 a.m.

A free kids race around the football field track starts at 8:45 a.m., with the 5K starting at 9 a.m. The event is open to people of all ages and abilities.

Race-day registration cost is $25 per individual and $60 per family. Applications are available at Esko Fitness Center, Eskomo Pizza Pies, Esko Self Service and at northlandrunner.com and minnesotarunner.com.

All proceeds go to scholarships for Esko’s graduating seniors.

On April 24, 1997, Kristin Burkholder, 12, died as a result of injuries suffered from a pedestrian-car accident while running during track practice on Canosia Road. A memorial scholarship has been established in her name.
